Eight pulsing lights, with at least two visible from every direction
Just like on the road, the amount of traffic in the air is continuously increasing. To prevent collisions, it is highly important for pilots to see other aircraft and to be seen by other pilots. For this reason, the DRF Luftrettung Part-21 Design Organisation developed a new system to improve both aspects, thereby enhancing safety in air traffic. The system is available for H145 and EC135 helicopters, H135 following.
Visibility on ground at night
Our Part-21 Design Organisation created an intelligent combination between three existing technologies in one innovative visual collision avoidance system.
The traffic avoidance system (TAS) and the integrated FLARM system are utilized to indicate the position of other aircraft on the onboard navigation map and alert the pilot to potential dangers.
They issue both acoustic and visual warnings if nearby aircraft approach within a predetermined distance.
The third technology includes eight LED pulsing lights, which can be linked to the warning systems (TAS and FLARM). These lights are installed on the helicopter and on the skids, oriented in various directions. If the helicopter gets dangerously close to another aircraft, these LEDs begin pulsing in a specific pattern to enhance visibility for the other aircraft.
Additionally, this system can be used on the ground to illuminate the area around the helicopter.
